An antique master's papier-mâché creation of Virgin Mary statue. A devotional statue depicting Madonna with a captured conveyance of holiness and serenity while holding various metal objects with religious implications, standing on a snake all made of polychromed clay and paper mache attached on a wooden base. Handcrafted in the South of Italy during 18th century. In good condition with traces of wear such as scratches, restorations around the hand area, polychrome loss in places and other details commensurate to age, with very charming aging patina. This is a masterpiece of a craftsman with high technical and artistic skill implied through the facial expression and the meticulous attention to every detail of paper forming, a stunning altar artwork!
