An impressive Dutch windmill landscape oil on panel by Charles Verbrugghe (Bruges, Belgium 1877 - 1974 Paris, France), signed lower left corner. He was a famous Belgian painter who was part of the Bruges School. He studied at the Art Academy in Bruges, Belgium and moved to Paris, France in 1907 to further develop his art skills and settled there permanently. He was a regular visitor of Au Lapin Agile in Montmartre with close encounters to famous french artists and became friends with French Maurice Utrillo and Dutch leading fauves Kees Van Dongen. Regardless to the artist's environment, Verbrugghe kept the true essence of a Flemish painter and remained loyal to impressionism. His main themes includes portraits, still lifes, cityscapes, landscapes and seascapes. He was featured in several Belgian Artwork literatures: Lexicon of West Flemish Visual Artist (Lexicon van Westvlaamse beeldende kunstenaars, 1992), The Bruges School (De Brugse School, 1990), Charles Verbrugghe, Brugge 1968 by Willy Van den Bussche and so much more.
