Impressive street scene of Bruges depicting the old lady lacemakers and a gentleman passer-by, oil on canvas by Emile Rommelaere (Belgium, 1873-1961). He studied at the Art Academy in Bruges and develop his artistic talent further at the National Higher Institute of Fine Arts in Antwerp. He won prestigious art prizes in Europe and held individual art exhibitions. He was known for his portraits, historical and biblical scenes, cityscapes, landscapes and illustrating scenes from everyday life. This lovely artwork is signed by the artist to the lower right corner and mounted in a custom made carved gilt wood frame. In very good condition with minor traces of wear and other details consistent to age.
