An exceptional late 19th-century French bronze figural mantel clock titled “Cupidon et Le Taureau.” This superb timepiece features a patinated bronze Cupid finial poised with his bow and arrow, together with a powerful Bull supporting the gilt-bronze pendulum clock. The clock case is lavishly embellished with foliate motifs and fitted with a bronze dial, enamel cartouche Roman numerals, blackened metal hands, and framed glass doors at the front and rear. The ensemble rests upon an ornate, heavy gilt-bronze base set on four scrolling acanthus feet.
The clock is in very good condition and working accordingly, striking on the hour and half-hour. The movement bears the maker’s stamp “AD Mougin – Deux Médailles.” A.D.
