Impressive 18th century Italian polychrome carved wood pediment. An attractive wall frieze sculpture depicting roman goddess Minerva reclining half naked holding a book with left hand. Minerva is a goddess of wisdom, intelligence, philosophy, craftsmanship, art, and inspiration. Each sides depicting sculpted and gilded sitting putti carrying and pulling the pieces on their shoulders. The panel is richly carved with hand painted cornucopias, the horn of plenty overflowing with fruits and crops. A symbol of abundance and nourishment. In good condition with normal traces of wear such as cracks on places, patina fading, treated worm holes and other details commensurate to ages. Very rare charming wall decoration!
